Let's start reading! Loud!

Gulbene County Library in cooperation with the Latvian National Library (LNL) is launching a new Reading Competition. Grade 5 and 6 year olds across the country can start preparing for an exciting first round of competition in their schools and libraries across the country.

Silvija Tretyakova, Head of the Children's Literature Center of the National Library of Latvia:

“By launching a new reading campaign, the LNL Children's Literature Center wants to improve children's skills to choose suitable and interesting literature for reading aloud, to stimulate interest in reading and books, to unite children in joint reading activities, and to promote reading pleasure. Participants can find suitable reading material for the competition in the collection of books of the "Jury for Children, Youth and Parents", as well as for forgotten, good books or newly published works. "

New readers of Gulbene region who are studying in the 5th or 6th grade also have the opportunity to become the best readers in Latvia. It will be exciting! The prize is an opportunity to become the Children's Director of the National Library for a year!

The competition will take place throughout the 2017/2018 school year. The start will be in the classroom or school, where the best readers will be nominated for the semifinals at the Gulbene County Library. Unfortunately, only one reader from Gulbene will be able to go to Riga, so there will be a regional final in Gulbene. The main final in Riga will be at the end of May.

Unlike stage speech competitions, these competitions will not require memorization. It will reduce children's stress and experiences in moments of forgotten words. In the competition, the new reader can stand or sit and read the book that is most interesting and exciting to him.

Gulbene County Library invites schools to participate in the competition! More information in Gulbene Children's Library, also on the website www.gulbenesbiblioteka.lv .
