General information about the parish: Galgauskas parish is located in the western part of the district. The Tirza River and its tributaries flow through the parish - Gosupe, Vijata / Place /, Lāčupe. The largest lake - Galgauskas Lake. The largest bog - Salas bog. To the north of the Tirza River are large forests. Forests cover 4423.2 ha or 45% of the parish area. Galgauskas Parish boasts an ancient and rich history. Back in the early 20th century, it was called Golgovsk. This non-Latvian name comes as a legacy from the Polish times in Vidzeme, 16th century. in the second half, when the manor belonged to the Polish pan Golgovsky.

There are also two castle mounds of archeological monuments of local significance. Bowl Hill is located 2 km from the center of Galgauskas. It is a 5-6 m high mountain formed by light sand. Legend has it that the church sank on the mountain. Ausene castle mound is located 500 m southeast of "Lazdukalns" house, in the middle of the field, on a 5-6 m high hill.
