Kokars Guntis (1954-2015), journalist, poet
Born on November 25, 1954, in Cesvaine.
Graduated from Gulbene 2nd year school, Riga 45th secondary school, Riga 3rd technical school.
He studied at the LVU Faculty of Philology, then also wrote his first poems. They have been published in the newspapers "Soviet Youth", "Literature and Art", in the magazines "Liesma" and "Karogs", as well as in the collection "Eyes" (1987). Poetry and poems have been published in the magazine "Avots" and in the newspaper "Labrīt". Tales have been published in the magazine "Zīlīte".
He has translated two documentary novels: A. Avturhanov's "The Mystery of Stalin's Death" (continued in the newspaper "National Independence") and A. Korzhakov's "From Dawn to the West" (Boris Yeltsin's Road to Power); Continued in the newspaper "Neatkarīgā Rīta Avīze".
Working in journalism, Guntis Kokars will focus on current public and political issues, which have been published in several publications, including "Fokuss", "Nedēļa", and "Neatkarīgā Rīta Avīze".
Died on January 4, 2015.
