Biologist, chemist Kavacs Guntis was born on March 4, 1933 in Alūksne district. He spent his childhood and school years in Gulbene.

Graduated from Gulbene Secondary School (1953), Faculty of Biology and Soil, Moscow State University (1958).

Head of the editorial office of Biology, Chemistry and Medical Sciences of the publishing house "Latvijas enciklopēdija" (since 1979), editor-in-chief of the encyclopedia "Latvijas daba".

Candidate of Biological Sciences (1966).
