Plūdonis, Plūdons Vilis (1874 - 1940), poet, worked in Jaungulbene

Born in 1874, Bauska district, real. v. Vilis Lejnieks.

Studied at Bauska Pilsmuiža Parish School (1884-1887), Bauska City School, Baltic Teachers' Institute in Kuldiga (1891–1895). During school he learned to play several musical instruments, read Latvian and Russian literature.
He has worked as a teacher at the Liezere Parish School (1895–1897), Bigauņciems Parish School (1897–1898), Riga Elementary School, N. Draudziņa Gymnasium, Riga City 1st Gymnasium (1919-1934) and other Riga schools.

During the First World War and the War of Independence from 1915 to 1919, he lived with his brother in Jaungulbene.

He began writing poetry under the pseudonym Plūdons, which was published in the newspaper "Mājas Viesis", later in his first collection of poems "First Chords" (1895). He has written the poems "Two Worlds" (1899), "The Widow's Son" (1901), "Little Andulis' First Childhood Memories" (1901), and "To the Sunny Distance" (1912).
Wrote poetry for children. Collections “Children's Poetry” (1921), “Willow Stabulite” (1923), “Fairy Cradle” (1933), “Miracle Stable” (1937), “Book of Dwarfs” (1939) have been published. Also - "Zaķītis sauna", "Winter fairy tale", "Dwarfs and Mežavecis", "Hedgehog fur coat" and many other works.

He translated Nietzsche's masterpiece "Zaratustra spoke", poems "Baigi" (1903) and "Rēgi" (1908).

Died in 1940 in Riga, buried in the family cemetery "Lejenieki".
