Šķipsna Ilze (1928 - 1981), writer

Writer Šķipsna Ilze (married to Rotroka) was born on February 17, 1928 in Riga into the family of Elizabeth Kauliņa, a translator of fiction by Ēvalda Šķipsna, a civil servant.

He spent his summers in his grandfather's home in Dreiņi, Jaungulbene Parish.

Studied at Riga 3rd Gymnasium.

In the autumn of 1944 he went into exile to Germany. After graduating from K. Skalbe Gymnasium in Fischbach, the first literary works were written here. 1949 left for the United States, where he lived in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a master's degree in library science and later anthropology. Worked as a librarian. In the second half of the 1960s, she established and managed the library of the Kimbel Museum of Art in Fort Worth until the end of her life.

She started writing poems during her high school years in Riga, and continued in Fischbach. About 90 poems remain in the manuscripts. With the first collection of short stories "Wind Stabules", I. Šķipsna became the first winner of the J. Jaunsudrabiņš Prose Award. She has written the novels "Behind the Seventh Bridge" and "The Promised Land", and has published a collection of short stories "Average Reality".

Died January 24, 1981, buried in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA.
