Writer Plotnieks Jānis was born on March 24, 1932 in Grūžupe, Jaungulbene Parish, in a peasant family.

Graduated from Gulbene Secondary School (1952) and the Department of Latvian Language and Literature of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Latvian State University (1957). He worked for the LVI (now the publishing house "Liesma") as an editor (1956 - 1958 and 1969 - 1971), in the newspaper "Literatūra un Māksla" as the head of the department (1959 - 1965). g.), in the magazine "Draugs", since 1983. head of the department in the magazine "Zīlīte". Member of the Writers' Union (1958).

The first publication - the poem "Light will come from Pededze" in the newspaper "Soviet Youth" in 1951. The handwriting of the Plotter poet was created at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, when the collections "Song of Unrest" (1958), "The Earth Owns Stars" (1961), "The North Star Burns" (1964), were published. "Ice burns with a flame" (1966). Romantic, sometimes articulated anxiety, passionate protest against urban citizenship and backwardness, social motives. Style publicistic: a broken poetic phrase, poetics of contrasts without nuances and .tml. Prose is also characterized by an alarming uplift. The stories "Rotaļa" (1972) and "single variegated summer" (1977) tell about the love, work and everyday life of young people in the 1970s. Also, in the novel "Oak Old" (1980), in the story "Blooming Dandelions Before Frost" (1983), the events are viewed through the eyes of a young person, but their time is older - the late 30s and 40s. There is a slump in some places. He has also published the documentary "The Bridge" (1984), the description of the book "The Roads Are Called Further", "Eight Times Across the Equator" (both 1963), "Houses and People" (1964), "But the brave are! " (1967), etc. Collections of poems "Sailor on a Seed" (1964), "Lark on the Sun" (1970) have been written for children. The story "Black and White" (1966) describes the adventures of railway boys in Gulbene in the 1930s, and the book "Black Miracle" (1967) contains six stories about Africa. Art films "Long Day Morning" (1968) and "Republic of Vārnu Street" (1970, according to J. Griziņš) were shot according to Plotnieks' script.
