Pavasars Helmers (1903-1998), composer
Born on May 19, 1903 in Lejasciems, Gulbene district.
In 1919 he participated in the Latvian Freedom Fights.
Studied at Cēsis and Valmiera music schools. Studied at the Latvian Conservatory: in 1928 J.Vītols composition class and in 1930 Ā.Meca's violin playing class.
Since 1934, he has been the director of the Cēsis Folk Conservatory, and has founded and conducted the Cēsis Symphony Orchestra.
After many years abroad, Latvia is visited again in 1990 during the Song Festival.
He has left about 80 choral songs, 40 solo songs, 3 cantatas and many instrumental works in his creative work.
Died on June 12, 1998 in London, the reburial took place on May 15, 1999 in Valmiera.
