Lancmanis Zelmars (1883 - 1935), teacher, regional researcher

Geographer, teacher Lancmanis Zelmars was born on October 20, 1883 in the factory pub of Jaungulbene parish.

1896 - 1898 attended the two-grade ministry school in Jaungulbene. He has acquired his versatile knowledge mainly through self-study, he has also prepared for the examinations of the gymnasium course independently. Acquired the rights of a history teacher through self-study (1904).

He has worked as a teacher in Peterupe, Mengele, Vecmilgravis, Plavinas, Lejasciems. 1911 - 1915 runs a self-founded proral school in Lejasciems.

One of the first Latvian local researchers, promoters of tourism, guardians of natural and cultural monuments.

1905-1915 his first articles with pedagogical and educational features begin to appear in magazines and newspapers.

The catalog of the Brass Library contains 18 books written by Lancmanis, mostly about the minerals of Latvia and their useful use. He has also written several tourist guides, and has repeatedly published a book, Learning the Surroundings.

From 1919 until the end of his life he worked as the administrator of Riga Strazdumuiža Primary School.

Died on October 12, 1935, buried in the Forest Cemetery.
