Experience trip

Summer is coming to an end, the holiday season is coming to an end and the new working season is about to begin. On August 6, Gulbene district librarians went on an experience trip to Jurmala Central Library and Kocēni Parish 1st Library. There we found new ideas for future work.

Jūrmala Central Library is a new building of Jūrmala cultural infrastructure, located in the Dubulti Culture Quarter, with an extensive storage of books, a periodical reading room, with quiet reading rooms for individual work, and a multifunctional hall for events. Our attention was drawn to the self-service facility, where readers can both hand over and receive books. The outdoor exhibition area in the library area is beautiful. We also visited the most unusual museum in Jurmala, which took us back to the 1930s, where we met the poetess Aspazija.

In turn, in the 1st library of Kocēni parish we got acquainted with the work of a small rural library near the city. There we shared experience on how to cooperate with other institutions in the rural area, how to organize small events for readers of various interests. Basements are used very rationally for exhibitions and events.
