Today, the Commission is launching the autumn application round for the 'DiscoverEU' initiative, which will give 35,000 young people the chance to receive a rail pass to travel around Europe and explore its rich culture.
Young people from Erasmus+ program countries can submit applications from today at 12.00 until October 25 at 12.00 In order to obtain a travel card, young people are invited to log in to the European Youth Portal, answer five quiz questions and one additional question. Candidates born between January 1 and December 31, 2004 and who have successfully completed the selection quiz will be able to travel within Europe for up to 30 days between March 1, 2023 and February 29, 2024.
Marija Gabriela, the member of the Commission responsible for innovation, research, culture, education and youth: "2022. 2018 is the European Year of Youth and is a defining moment in European history. We must focus on the younger generations, offering them the opportunity to expand their horizons to build a more connected and tolerant world. This is what DiscoverEU is all about. While traveling, young people will be able to get to know our diversity, as well as learn that there are also many similarities."
In connection with the European Year of Youth 2022, a larger number of travel cards have been granted. A total of 70,000 travel cards are available this year. DiscoverEU is now part of Erasmus+, so young people from Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey can also apply.
Participants will also receive a discount card, which will give you the opportunity to receive discounts on public transport in more than 40,000 places, as well as when visiting cultural events, paying for accommodation and food, participating in sports events and receiving other services available in all eligible countries.
