Multilingual digital platform for the Conference on the Future of Europe launched

The Board of the Conference on the Future of Europe, composed of representatives of the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission, launches a multilingual digital platform for the conference on the Future of Europe, inviting all EU citizens to contribute to their future. The platform is available in 24 languages, allowing citizens from across the Union to express and exchange their ideas and views through online events.

The Conference on the Future of Europe is an unprecedented, open and inclusive form of democratic consultation. It aims to give people from all walks of life across Europe a greater say in what they expect from the European Union; it should then help guide the EU's future direction and policy-making. The Joint Presidency is committed to following up the outcome of the conference.

The joint presidency of the conference welcomed the launch of the platform.

David Sasoli, President of the European Parliament, said: "The platform is an important tool for citizens to participate and have their say on the future of Europe. We need to make sure that their voices are heard and that they have a role to play in decision-making - regardless of the Covid-19 pandemic. In any case, a European democracy characterized by representation and participation will continue to function, as it is necessary for our common future.

The Prime Minister of Portugal, Antoniu Kosta , representing the Presidency of the Council, said: "It is time for our citizens to actively express their greatest concerns and ideas. This debate is taking place at a truly opportune time. "Once we have overcome the pandemic, we will be ready for the future. We look forward to continuing to build the Europe of the future together - a fairer, greener and more digital Europe that will meet the expectations of our citizens."

Urzula von der Leiena, President of the European Commission, added: "Health, climate change, quality and sustainable jobs in an increasingly digital economy, the current state of our democratic society - we call on Europeans to have their say, their concerns and what kind of Europe they want to live in. "This citizens' platform gives everyone the opportunity to take part in shaping the future of Europe and to share with other people from all over Europe. It's a great opportunity to bring Europeans together virtually. Join the debate! Together we can shape the future of the Union to meet our needs."
