A series of events on the future of Europe and digital challenges will take place in Latvian libraries

From September 9 to November 4, a series of events dedicated to the Conference on the Future of Europe and Digital Challenges will take place in the regions of Latvia, the European Union (EU) Information Points and the Europe Direct Center in Jelgava. The closing event of the cycle is scheduled for November 4 at the EU House in Riga. The cycle of events is organized by the Representation of the European Commission in Latvia in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union Information Points in Libraries and the Latvian Safer Internet Center. The cycle of events will be led by journalist and TV3 moderator Arnis Krauze .

The first part of the event will include a discussion on current EU issues on security, employment, health, the environment and climate change, listening to citizens' views and ideas; thus involving participants in the Conference on the Future of Europe. Each of the events will be attended by an expert on EU affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Commission Representation in Latvia, European Parliament office or a member of the European Parliament).

In the second part of the event, those interested are invited to participate in digital skills training, which will be led by Anita Priede , a lecturer at the Latvian Safer Internet Center. The training will cover practical information on the everyday possibilities of digital technologies, the recognition of misinformation and false news, and the prevention of various types of fraud.

The first events will take place on September 9 in Gulbene district library from 12.00 to 14.00 and in the administrative building of Alūksne municipality from 16:00 to 18:00 Astra Kurme, Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take part in the talks on current EU issues. All cycle events are planned in person. The number of participants in the event is limited, so those interested should apply in advance by contacting the organizers of the event, by phone or by e-mail. Participation in the event is possible only on presentation of a valid COVID-19 vaccination or disease certificate together with an ID card or passport.
