The first competition in the new period of the Erasmus + program has been announced

The National Agency for the Development of Education (VIAA) informs that the European Commission (EC) has announced the launch of the new period of the European Union (EU) Erasmus + program for education, training, youth and sport and has launched a call for proposals for 2021 projects. During this program period, the emphasis is on individual and group learning mobility, as well as on organizational cooperation that fosters inclusion, excellence, creativity, innovation and sustainability. The program has a total budget of over € 28 billion over 7 years, with 12 million participants in all participating countries.

More than 21.6 million euros have been allocated for the implementation of the program in Latvia in the field of education and training in the 2021 competition, incl. EUR 13.9 million for learning mobility and EUR 7.7 million for development partnerships. There is a significant increase in funding for this mobility in the school and adult education sector.

New to the program are learning mobility opportunities for students and adult learners. Pupils can go abroad for group mobility of up to 30 days, while pupils have individual mobility of up to 29 days or long-term mobility of up to one year. Similarly, adult learners can go on group mobility of up to 30 days or individual learning mobility of the same length.

In order to promote a strategic approach to the planning and implementation of learning mobility, educational institutions in the school, vocational and adult education sectors will be able to obtain Erasmus + accreditation in the new programming period. It will provide an opportunity to apply for mobility projects in a simplified way.

The Erasmus + program also envisages Development Partnerships, which allow organizations to gain experience in international cooperation, strengthen their capacity and create high-quality innovative results in education and training. In order to enable small organizations with little experience in implementing projects to participate in the program, the program includes the possibility of small-scale partnerships using a simplified funding model.

In the new program period introduced activity Erasmus Teachers College (Erasmus Teacher academies) where invited to participate in initial teacher education and training providers, to build a European and global perspective of teacher education, to promote the teaching profession more attractive and to deal with the teaching staff aging.

In the new period 2021-2027, the cross-cutting priorities of the Erasmus + program are inclusion and diversity, ensuring the participation of different sections of society in projects, the environment and climate change, digital transformation and participation in democratic processes.

Project applications are invited to be submitted by organizations (legal entities) operating in the fields of general, professional, higher and adult education. The Erasmus + 2021 competition guidelines are available on the EC website . During the period from 12 to 16 April, VIAA will organize informative events on the submission of project applications to potential project implementers in all sectors of education.
